Meditations, Marcus Aurelius. Translated from the Greek, by Maxwell Staniforth. Penguin Books LTD, 1964
There is great deal of truth in the writings of Marcus
Aurelius and the book MEDITATIONS is included here to reinforce the
notion that there is nothing new under the sun. If something is true
today then it would have been true a thousand years ago and it will be
true a thousand years from now; this is referred to as Principle. As we
move from living a life dictated by our fears, to one in which we
endeavor to make our own choices based on non-fear and Love, we will
time and again be reminded of what is Principle or Truth. To this end
it is hoped that it will be instructive and helpful to read the
perspective of one who was aware of these same principles several
thousands of years ago, so we can be confident that our course is time
tested and true.
From the Back Cover: It was during his campaigns against the barbarians
that Roman Emperor, Marcus Aurelius (A.D. 121-180), wrote his famous
Meditations. They record the passing thoughts, the maxims, the musings
on life and death of a sensitive and humble mind which had been trained
in that Stoic philosophy which contributed so much to Christianity.
